Botafogo

It may have been more than luck, but I really had begun the process of staying with another hostel, but they, also a good one, were closing for a couple of weeks to spruce the place up for the upcoming tourist season. Which led me to do more research and come here, to Botafogo. And what a fortunate choice that was. A lovely beachfront upscale community and for me a constant delight to be in. When you walk to the beach and turn around, this is what you see. A great multi-story shopping mall (with the red mark on the building), and one of the famous monuments of Rio. The hostel is just down the street (to the left) where there are nice restaurants, bars, stores, supermarkets, and a very convenient Metro station and even a university campus.

And when you look the other way, across the beach and the water, you'll see one of the most famous landmarks of Rio, just a walk away from here. The only way this could get any better would be if they could clean the water in this bay. It's not fit for swimming. However, there is a yacht club here, so it is definitely fine for boating.

There are a good number of stately old mansions in this area, too.

The wonderful mall, has an electronic store in the basement level and a food court, but also small restaurants on every level. Then there is this great hobby shop that has a window display of resin figures of all kinds. Here a collection from the popular (also in Brazil) Game of Thrones TV series.
